About us
Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee is owned by Isaiah Gray, who performs the duties of the Hospital Administrator. Being a non-veterinarian owner, his vision was to separate the financial burden of business ownership from the medical decisions and responsibilities of the hospital’s veterinarians. This separation is a rare and unique situation that allows the veterinarians to recommend and perform medical services based on the needs of the patient, without worrying about the bottom line. In addition, it allows each member of the staff to focus on their specialized field and perform duties they were trained for.
Why South Milwaukee?
The decision to purchase Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee from the previous veterinarian, Dr. Dogra was two-fold. The first reason was the lack of a progressive and modern veterinary facility in the immediate South Milwaukee area, that not only services cats and dogs but birds as well as other exotic pets. We have strived to not only excel in the services we offer but also extend specialized services from other veterinarians. One such example is the orthopedic surgical experience of Dr. Brian Ray from Belle City Veterinary Hospital and their digital ultrasound capabilities. By working closely with other facilities, we are able to expand on the services offered to clients while keeping costly equipment purchases minimal, thus in turn keeping client’s costs low.
The second reason for the purchase of Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee was the potential for the facility to become an educational hub. Our quarterly newsletter is sent out to every registered pet owner in the surrounding cities of South Milwaukee, Oak Creek, Cudahy, St. Francis, Caledonia and southern areas of Milwaukee, totaling over 8000 households.. We believe that as a veterinary practice, we have an obligation to provide information to not only our clients, but the residents of the area. This is one of our core values as we know that the health of an animal depends not only on the health of those in the household but also other animals in the surrounding community.
Why choose us for your veterinary needs?
Your Healthcare Team
Every member of the staff at Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee was chosen, not only because of their experience and abilities, but also because of their beliefs. Each individual on our team believes in the highest quality of veterinary care for all patients and collectively we strive to uphold these standards. Each of us participates in continuing education, thus allowing the latest proven methods of veterinary care be available for our patients.
The hospital as a business
Keeping up with the newest proven medical protocols and advancements in veterinary medicine requires not only the latest equipment, but also proper training on the use of such tools. These demands unfortunately also equate to an ever increasing operating cost. To minimize the transfer of higher prices to clients, every effort is made to reduce waste in all departments. Such examples include, upgrading the facility with the manpower donated solely by the staff of Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee and our volunteering family members, medical records being kept digitally to minimize paper costs, every design and publication being created in-house while working closely with other businesses maximizes savings.
The hospital as a member of the community
Apart from the educational resources we offer to the public, Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee and its staff also uphold a high level of community commitment. Dr. Melanie Murphy volunteers time at different locations such as the local dog park, local businesses and neighborhood schools to meet pet owners, answer questions and put effort into pet health awareness. Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee actively participates in community events either as sponsors or vendors, and the staff continually puts in volunteered hours to assist in all community events. Efforts are also taken to minimize exposure of diseases from the hospital to the public. For example, the staff are not allowed to leave the facility in their medical scrubs unless on official business and only with a clean set. A centralized scavenger system is also installed to eradicate excessive anesthetic fumes to protect both clients and patients visiting the facility as well as the staff. These details are all part of our commitment to be a responsible member of the community.
